WILL THE IRS TARGET MIDDLE CLASS AGAIN

September 22, 2022 - Douglas Myser

Will the IRS target middle class again. Alot of back and forth has gone on since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which is adding 87,000 new IRS employees. The IRS in recent years, has been overwhelmed by added work, and underfunding by Congress. Its at a point where customer service, and handling its duties is and has suffered significantly. So the act will repair that. Both sides of Congress are clamoring over whether the supposed intent of going after the rich, will in fact happen. A closer look will reveal alot. Will the IRS target middle class again.

When Covid hit, the IRS shut down, and ended up with a backlog. So to address that they also stopped sending out Collection Notices. Then the IRS "surge" happened to get the backlog caught up. That will be done by the end of the fall 2022. Then when the 87,000 are hired and trained, starting the winter of 2022-2023 the IRS will gear up to get aggressive in Collection Actions again. One thing not mentioned in the media, states with Income Tax, have agreements with the IRS to share information. So if you fall behind on your state taxes, the IRS will take your refund or examine your tax situation, and if you have Unfiled Tax Returns or a Tax Debt, they will come after you. The IRS will also start sending out Tax Lien notices again. And while this is not an Audit, or what is being reported in the news, the result on a persons ability to get credit or sell a home is devastating. So yes the IRS will again be going after the middle class, not matter what you read in the media from Politicians.
