Six month extension to file taxes. Most citizens want to get a tax refund as fast as possible, so they file prior to the filing deadline, which in 2022 is on April 18th. Yet those who have incomplete records, who owe some in taxes, or have other outstanding years to deal with, sometimes find they need to file an extension for various reasons. The IRS in service bulletin IR-2022-71, reminded taxpayers that if you cannot file your taxes by the deadline, online options exist to complete a return, or to file for an extension of time to file. As a reminder, the extension of time to file, is only for the time to file, not for paying any taxes you owe on. If you do not pay what you owe, you will assessed a 5% failure to pay penalty on the principal amount of the tax debt. Six month extension to file taxes.
