Texas billionaire biggest tax fraud case. Robert Brockman was so concerned that the IRS would catch him, that he had his offshore money man travel to the states, to destroy paper evidence and electronic media, using shedders and hammers. Eventually prosecutors caught up to him and his decades long tax fraud scheme, the biggest in American history, caught him. A federal grand jury indicted Brockman on 39 charges, including tax fraud, wire fraud, evidence tampering and money laundering. "The allegation of a $2 billion tax fraud is the largest ever tax charge against an individual in the United States," said David Anderson, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California. Texas billionaire biggest tax fraud case.

Brockman, the chief executive of Reynolds and Reynolds, a software company, that makes software for auto dealers, had a network of entities in Bermuda and Nevis, to hide investment income from the IRS. He also allegedly had secret bank accounts in Bermuda and Switzerland, where he funneled untaxed profits from selling assets. To keep the scheme, Brockman used secret, encrypted email systems to coordinate with offshore money handlers, according to the indictment. Brockman used code names for himself, his assets, the IRS, and his money handlers.

Brockman, who lives in Houston and Pitkin County, Colorado, is a Marine veteran who started out in marketing at Ford Motor Company. He later worked as a salesman at IBM before founding Universal Computer Services in the 1070 leading the company through its acquisition by Reynolds and Reynolds in 2006. But starting in 1999, prosecutors say, Brockman began carefully stashing money overseas and covering his tracks to avoid investigators. Brockman was adept at evading fees and covering up suspicious activity, prosecutors say. He told the main handler, who is unnamed in the indictment to "operate as much as possible in a paperless manner" so that everything was "in encrypted digital form," the indictment said.
